ISLAMABAD, Pakistan - Pakistanis celebrated the country's diamond jubilee with traditional zeal and enthusiasm on Sunday, with commemorative ceremonies held in various cities.
The day began with a 21-gun salute in the provincial headquarters and a 31-gun salute in Islamabad. According to the report, prayers were offered for Pakistan's security and progress, as well as the well-being of its people.
A change of guard ceremony was also held at the Quaid-i-Azam's mausoleum in Karachi.
"If we can become a nuclear power, we can also become an economic power," Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said during a flag-raising ceremony in Islamabad.
The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) also revealed the design of a Rs75 commemorative banknote to commemorate the country's diamond jubilee. According to the central bank, the note featuring photos of the nation's father and other independence leaders will be available for public issuance on September 30.
