OTTAWA, Canada - The Canadian government issued a new travel advisory for Pakistan on Monday, advising citizens to "exercise a high degree of caution" when visiting the country.
"Exercise a high degree of caution in Pakistan due to the unpredictable security situation. There is a threat of terrorism, civil unrest, sectarian violence, and kidnapping," a notification on an official website indicated, prompting Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed to react strongly.
In response to the warning, Shaikh Rasheed stated that Pakistan is a peaceful country and that Ottawa has not contacted Islamabad regarding its travel recommendation.
The interior minister dismissed the concept that any Canadian national required security or was vulnerable to insecurity.
According to the interior minister, all foreigners are safe in Pakistan.
